About Us
PM CV for Impact is the brainchild of Adam Russell (Adam on Projects), a veteran IT & Digital Project Leader. Adam has been involved in the PM job lifecycle for four decades, starting as an individual contributor, and then a manager of PMs and PMOs. Adam has observed and managed the entire process from writing Job Descriptions through CV assessment, Interview selection and Interviewing, through to Offboarding. He's read many hundreds of CVs and interviewed a hundred or more candidates.The PM CV for Impact Services grew from Adam's volunteering to review the CVs of colleagues, peers, and even total strangers.Rather than take a generic focus on CV's and the job-seeking pathway, as so many online commentators and experts do, Adam specialises only in Project Delivery Professionals. Project Management Focus
Our focus is entirely on Project delivery professionals. I've read hundreds of project manager CVs and most of them do not truly showcase the candidate's strengths and experience. Many of them are very frustrating. Some common issues I notice are:
How many ways can a CV go wrong?
Vague, fluffy, or redundant experience statements.
Experience phrased in low-value terms (tasks and resources, not outcomes and impacts).
Every CV sounds the same - an "Ideal PM actor".
Don't address negative scenarios and how you overcame them.
Not clear what you actually did in the role.
Noisy - Hard to read, no narrative or complex structure.
The difference between a CV showcasing your true strengths and real experience, and a generic pro-forma CV, is amazing.
Are you targetting the wrong stage in the hiring process?
A CV passes through multiple touchpoints (automated and human) before it reaches a PM Hiring Manager, but the hiring manager is the most important.Those earlier steps are important, but they involve people who are not project experts. The analysis of “empty content” in a CV is to look at content that sounds good but doesn’t really mean much. I’ve identified 5 categories of “empty content” typical in Project delivery CVs, including Amplification, Jargon, Generic terminology, Assumed Skills and Vague Measures.Experience Value Analysis
The analysis of your CV's experience statements from the perspective of project value, using the Program Logic Model as a scoring framework. Each statement is scored from 0-5 depending on whether it emphasises Resources, Activities, Deliverables, Outcomes, or Impacts, or none of these.Keywords Analysis
